Performance

The performance on the Samsung Series 9 laptop is fast very fast. The boot time into 64 bit Windows is just a couple of seconds, mainly due to the incredible SSD drive built in. Once I transferred some full 1080p HD footage to the laptop. I tested it’s ability to run an NLE using my Avid Media Composer 5.5 , and Edit Share’s Lightworks, the laptop was able to edit HD footage with ease. Truly this machine has some outstanding performance. The 8 gigs of ram give my PhotoShop CS5 plenty of room to breath, allowing me to edit raw stills from the Canon 5D MKII. Even when compressing and rendering footage the Laptop was more than up to the task. I enjoyed the performance so much I took the laptop to set and used to view dallies.

Intel Widi

Intel’s Widi is a wireless display system built in to the laptop that works in conjunction with a Tv adapter, in this case a D-Link router to stream HD Movies Photo’s, or even your favorite Netflix. It basically allows you to use your own personal TV as a second monitor. Using the HDMI port it also streams all the audio along with the video seamlessly. The system supports up to 1080p with 5.1 surround sound, HDCP2 (Blu Ray) and is dual band capable.( 2.4 and 5GHz wifi ).

Steaming to my LCD from several feet away worked flawlessly. This would is a great way to screen dallies with your producer, and not have them hovering over your edit screens. Great job Intel.

Final thoughts

The Samsung Series 9 laptop in combination with Intel’s WiDi makes a very powerful solution. Not to mention it also looks fantastic. I have no trouble at all recommending this set up to professionals and creatives alike.
