Technology plays a major role in post production as now everything we edit from the latest hollywood blockbuster to the your home videos is all done on a PC. Gone are the days of tape editing and neg cutting, replaced by computers. Editing has gone from large rooms with giant computers to small laptops with faster processing and renders times.
Over the past couple of years we have seen render times cut to less than half. Even on my PC with the latest gen of Intel processors is nearly twice as fast as previous generation using Intel’s latest QuickSync video. I can shoot a small HD video of my family and friends render it out with QuickSync and share it wirelessly with Intel Widi. Times have really changed.
All this time saving allows me to have quicker turn around times, which in turn means I take on more clients, in a shorter time period.. What used to take months, weeks, can now be done in days, or even hours. This is a great advantage to the industry, and can increase profitability in the long run. As long as you remember to balance work and life.
Technology recently has allowed us to multitask on our PC’s. this has become a natural workflow for me. I often have After Effects, Avid, and Photoshop all running at the same time. This is a real advantage especially now that my PC has the latest Intel 2 gen processors, that allows me to over clock and multithread my renders. What does that mean? Well it means I can maximize all those tiny cores in my PC to get the job done quicker and more efficiently.
Technology has pushed the post production forward as we no longer have lengthy render times, or have to concentrate on one program at a time. Multitasking has provided me with more time to spend with family and friends. How has latest technology affected you and your environment ?
