What’s most interesting about the book is that it’s not your normal guide on how to. The cookbook style is easier to read and gets right to the point. Besides, who doesn’t like a good cookbook! I know I do!

I’ve been a longstanding FCP editor and have been looking for a quick way to dive into AVID.
I work as an assistant in Hollywood and most of my work has been on FCP. My edit house is currently integrating more and more Avid projects and I’m not going to be a very good assistant unless I can pull a few tricks out of my hat. I believe this book will give me a solid understanding of the Avid structure as well as help me step up to the advanced playing field.
Media management is an important aspect for Avid Media Composer that needs to be understood. The book devotes a complete chapter to this and I believe this will be the chapter that seasoned and new editors will constantly refer to.
Really dig the step-by-step approach to explaining the sequence of things you need to do to complete a task (from the sample chapter).
As someone who composes a lot of music for videos, commercials and TV shows…I’d love to read this to check out http://www.packtpub.com/avid-media-composer-6-x-cookbook/book#chapter_7 to see how I can better prep my mixes to send to production houses.
Very interested to see how he addresses “Adding Filler at the end of a sequence”, it is something that is bothering me immensely right now. I have work around but just want to know if there is an easier way. Big fan of Ben’s, he is one of the powerful resources active in the Avid-L and very passionate about editing with avid.
As someone returning to Avid after working with the other “Big A” editors, I wish to not only regain my chops and speed, but dig into the newer features now available. I also want to fully use the Multicam features – something I miss almost as much as the trimming tools.
Need all the help I can get as I transition back to Avid.
Media Composer is wonderfully complex and therefore not
always intuitively obvious.When you are
like me and do not edit every day or even every week, it can be a challenge to
remember the steps required to accomplish what needs to be done. This book is a treasure in that it refreshes
for me the step by step help I need as well as giving me the broad base understanding
of what I am doing.
Moving up from Avid 2.2.7 to 6.x is a big jump. I need help in understanding the new features since that old version.
As an old school Avid Editor, I`d like to dig into
I’m really looking forward to getting all that I can out of AVID and this book looks like it could help. Ben is a great instructor so I could see his “Cookbook” being a huge help.
I was reading the sample page of the new “cookbook” and was wondering if the book will have links to sample files of the examples. Also, does it cover Scriptsync ? Otherwise it looks well designed.
Nicely done Ben.
I have only been working in AVID now for about 9 Months, so the thing that interests me most about this book is an expansion of my knowledge base in the application.
As a person who has been almost entirely self-taught in Avid, I get the nagging feeling on occasion that I’m not doing things the “right” way, and likely not an efficient way. I like the task-based approach idea, I think it will provide just the right tweaks to my technique and give me a valuable insight into how a pro goes about these problems. Thanks!
I’m jumping on an Avid series in June and it’s been…. 10 years since I last touched Avid Media Composer. To say I need all the help I can get is a minor understatement, hah.
I’m running tests now and gearing up to cut a feature documentary on the Avid, and while I know my way around to a certain degree I’m really interested in having a dependable guide hanging out with me to refer to. I really want to become an expert in Media Composer, and this book looks like an awesome step in the right direction.
I like the idea of it being set up as “Recipes”. Always looking for new tricks/features that I have missed somewhere along the way.
This book looks really good, I definitely could use some help with the Audio Mixer. I may purchase this even I don’t win. :)
Wow this looks fantastic. While I’ve got a basic understanding of Avid, there’s still much to learn. I’d love a copy.
Great idea for a Avid book.
I love the magnet Icon. Maybe Avid can adopt it .. (Or was it in a version of PP)
